This was what we woke up to on our registration day. Too bad it melted and we had to go to classes.

After a nice splunking adventure in the Jeff City "Cave" Daniel, Corey, and I were a little hungry. So we decided that we should combine all our orders at McDonalds so we could say that we ordered 100 McNuggets. And yes, we consumed them all, along with fries and milk shakes. If anyone is in need of any barbcue sauce, our fridge is full.

It's a 128 MB USB Flash Drive!!!

After alot of measuring and cutting and painting, I fit my old USB drive in this super cool Weinermobile. And now it's the coolest Weinermobile in the world.... except for maybe the real one.

I know what you all may be thinking.... "128 Megabytes..that won't hold very much stuff"
Well, I got it covered with this 30 Gigabyte Game Boy!!!

So now, anytime I need to store anything, or transfer it to another computer... I'll just break out the old Game Boy hard drive :)

As the Thanksgiving season rolls around once again, I've been thinking of some of the things that I'm personally thankful for.

I'm thankful to live in a country where we stand in line for a chance to buy an unneccessary video game system for $600, rather than standing in line hoping to be served a hot meal.

I'm thankful that we have the opportunity to complain that the heat is on too high, rather than freezing to death like so many do every night.

I'm thankful that I have the ability to spend my time furthering my education instead of working in a sweat shop making less than $5 a day.

I'm thankful that the hardest decision that I have to make is what I want to eat today, rather than wondering if I'll have enough to eat today.

I'm thankful that I'm constantly surrounded by the people I love, instead of writing to them from a war trench.

I'm thankful that no matter how greedy and selfish we are throughout our lives, God doesn't hesitate to give us all the love and grace that none of us deserve.

Not only during the fourth Thursday of November, but throughout every day of our lives, each of us should truly count all of our blessings.

It's November 8th. So, Happy 8 Day to everyone!!! I know I haven't updated in about a week and a half, but there really hasn't been much going on in my life to share with everyone. I've just been going to classes and sleeping alot. My truck did hit the big 69,000 mile mark on Sunday! Other than that, this week has been one of those weeks with nothing to do. Being bored usually inspires the creative side of me to come out, but I'm sorry to say that I've done absolutely nothing of the such recently. I do ask that everyone would keep us college students in your prayers. Excluding me, everyone around seems to be having a stressful week. I'm not sure if it's exams, or big projects due, or what, but just keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers.
In other news, I'm tired of school and ready to move to Canada. If anyone wishes to join me, I would suggest that you bring money for souvenirs and a bagged lunch.
I hope everyone's week is blessed, and let's try to help others :)

The Great Pumpkin

Our resident apartment complex had a pumpkin carving event this evening, and I just wanted to show off the first place pumpkin!!! It was my very first pumpkin that I've carved. I decided that even though it was my first attempt, I didn't want to do an ordinary jack-o-lantern, so I went with the Darth Vader approach, and I think it turned out pretty well. I know it isn't perfect, but I'm proud to call it my pumpkin :)

The Puzzle of Life

While recently working on a jigsaw puzzle, I began to see many parallels between life and a puzzle.
When beginning both life and a new puzzle, all the different pieces are all scrambled up in front of us with no real instructions to lead us in any direction. After we examine our current situation, we notice there are all different ways we can begin our journey. We may decide to start in one corner or another, depending on what we feel is best for us.
I have found it best to get your edges (beliefs and virtues) down first as a strong foundation to help us see what direction we're wanting to take. As we continue working, we notice that some parts come easy to us, and others can become a challenge. Just as in life, we all struggle in differing ways. Each obstable, or lesson that we learn in life is like getting the next piece in the right position.
Sometimes, things come along in life that seem like they belong and fit, but after some struggling and frustation, we finally submit to the fact that it just doesn't belong, at least not here and not now.
You can relate the picture on the box with God. It makes things alot easier when you look to Him as your guide. To see how things should be and look in your life. Some people don't realize that the box is sitting right there next to them, or they simply try to finish the puzzle without going to it, when all they need to do is look to Him to make life so much easier.
Puzzles can be enjoyable and relaxing, or boring and frustrating, depending on your current situation. After many hours and hours of diligent work and all is done and finished, you can look back over your whole experience and see all the things that you've accomplished and over come on your journey.
It's amazing the things that God can remind you of by simple things in life, like a puzzle.

September is back, and with it, East Tennessee Football :) With Carson-Newman's defeat over Webber International earlier this week (44-0), it was only right to let UT have a dominating victory as well. As a true UT fan, I would have to say that tonight's performance was, in fact, the best demonstration of UT Football that I've witnessed in years. The defense was banging on all cylinders in the first half, keeping Cal scoreless until late in the 3rd quarter. Credit must also be given to Erik Ainge and his 4 touchdown passes (only 1 less than his entire season last year) Ainge's confidence was high and his receivers were open, and with offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe back in control UT seems to be up and ready for a true UT season!

Show Me The Honey!!!

My tip for the week is for everyone to add a touch of honey to their diets. It has been proven to help the body in numerous ways including helping allergies, aiding in digestion, and increasing metabolism. So, not only is it a sweet and tasty treat, it is an easy way to give your body the extra boost it needs. If you are feeling drained of energy or if you are about to do anything physically strenuous on your body, take a teaspoon of pure honey and see the energy increase almost immediately. I have recently found honey to be excellent on sandwiches, as a rice seasoning, and good with butter on toast/bread. So I encourage everyone to support your local honey suppliers and add a sweet touch to all of your recipes :) Honey is also the only food that never spoils, so don't worry about buying in bulk and then having to throw it out. Word of Warning: Honey is high in both fructose and glucose, so if you have problems controling your blood sugar, don't overdose on honey.

Like when you're talking with a group of people and each one tries to out do the others story. An example would be "Yeah, I walked on the moon" because you know that nobody in the group can top that. So I thought I'd hold a little competition to come up with the best conversation stopper. Mine is "Yeah, so I got peed on by a hippopotamus".

Most pictures like these , seen on tv, are the opposite of this one. Most show a fat person before, and a thinner one after, but not this time. Over the past year, I have successfully gained 30 pounds. It's not like I was trying to gain weight, it just kind of happend.

Most people are ashamed to admit they have put on a few pounds, but I see it as a good thing. All throughout high school, I was a little on the thin side. Now that I've put on some weight, certain things (like lifting heavy things and pushing people over :) ) are quite a bit easier. If anyone wants the secret to my dieting success, just let me know, cause it's alot easier than trying to lose weight like most of the diets people pay for.

Recycling for Dummies

Seeing that Brian, Shawn, and I are taking Environmental Science, the topic of recycling was bound to come up in our everyday discussions. Today, Shawn and I were working on our study guides for the next chapter in the book (Dealing with Waste) while Brian was in the kitchen. Brian then mentioned that Shawn should recycle some of the things he was going to throw away, such as aluminum foil and some plastic bottles. Brian seemed to gloat about how the Honors House has been promoting recycling for years by having seperate recycling bins for things like paper, glass, aluminum cans, ect. Brian then went on to say that he didn't think the trash pick-up people had been taking the recyclables to the recycling centers, as he thought they were suppose to do. It seems that they have simply been throwing the contents of the so called "recycling bins" in with the regular trash. Shawn and I found this to be hysterical and ironic, that all of the bragging about saving the environment that the Honors Program had claimed to do has all been a joke.

Recycling is very good and it does indeed help the environment, but if you want things done right, do it yourself. Take your recyclables to your local Recycling Recepticals rather than putting them out with the trash.

As we take this day off to remember relax and eat some hot dogs, don't forget all the things our fore fathers did for us to make a free nation. From risking their lives to cross the Atlantic in a rickety boat, to fighting for our freedom, don't be quick to put fireworks at the top of the Fourth of July celebration.

Also, I would like to bring to the attention of my readers that on July 4, 1776, The Continental Congress approves a Declaration of Independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Because it is dated July 4, 1776, many people believe it was signed on that date—it was signed August 2 by most of the delegates. So be sure to celebrate August 2 as well :)

Call me weird, but the other day I got in a domestic mood. I wanted to make one of my good friends something, just for the heck of it, so I came up with the idea of making a bear modeled after me :) I bought the bear, and decided he needed some clothes. I personally enjoy the matching plaid green jacket. The glasses were the pièce de résistance that adds a fantastic representation of myself. I suspect that Mr. Brian Bear will be the next plush sensation (the new Ty Beanie Baby if you will) :)

Seeing that there are an estimated 287 million people in the United States alone, about 144 people will hypothetically die from things falling from the sky. I recommend that everyone strap some pillows to your head with duct tape.

Okay, so it's been a meer three weeks since I last updated, but alot has happend since then so I'll just start typing. I'm currently at Carson Newman taking a summer class (Environmental Science) so I can get one of my lab sciences out of the way. I've decided that having only one class a day is a lot better than a full loaded semester. Shawn, Brian, Sam, and Keita are keeping me entertained for the most part. I'm working on a few projects that will be nearing completion, and blogged about in the near future.

My sister is now engaged! Her and Tyler went out to dinner a few hours ago and I reckon he popped the question. It's weird to think of my sister as being at the marrying age, but it's good to know that she's with a good'un. I get to have a brother now :)

Orientation is going on here at CN and it's funny to see all the freshmen coming in. It's hard to believe that it's already been two years since it was me shaking in anxiety from coming to college.

Seeing that Orientation is no casual event (sarcasm) Brian, Shawn, and I decided we should dress for the occasion. Coincidentally, we had taken a trip to the Blackberry Patch only 30 minutes before Orientation Check In started. We all got a spiffy vintage blazers. You can see my beautiful green plaid jacket in the picture above. Isn't it amazing how sophisticated one can look in clothes for less than $10 :) We all got ties too.

It's All Geek to Me

For the past couple of nights, I've turned into a full Geek/Nerd. I've been playing games like Oregon Trail, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego, and GTA3. It's not just the fact that I'm spending time playing these games, but I've been modifying them. I know I'm a Computer Science major, but sometimes I scare myself. Although it is fun to make cars drive faster and always have the high score :) I just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm putting my college knowledge to good use.

Yesterday, we went and flew kites at the best place to fly kites in the world! The wind was perfect and our kites flew high :)

We also went on the most straight up hike I've ever been on. It's a little place called Molly's Knob. It's a 1.6 black diamond hike. We heard the view was worth the trip so we decided to try it out. The second we got to the top, a thunderstorm blew in. There was a group of about 15 hikers that were at the top when we arrived that promptly yelled "Grab your gear and ruuuuuunnnn" I got hit with a couple pieces of hale before I could take cover in the trees. We decided that we had climbed too far to just turn around, so we waited the storm out (which only took about 5-10 minutes) We then got to take a few pretty pictures and enjoyed the scenary.

After yesterday's leg excersises, we thought we'd even things out by going canoeing. I don't have any pictures of that, due to the fear of tipping over in a canoe and ruining my camera. We estimated that we traveled a little over four miles in our canoes. Now, with our sore arms and legs, we're resting up in the lodge. I hope everyone is having a nice and safe Memorial Weekend. I'll update a little later.

The Beginning of a New Day!

Now that my Sophomore year in college has come to a closure, I'm ready for a nice little break. I am pleased to announce that I made an A in my English 301 class and a B in my Algorithms class!!! You have no idea how exciting that was to find out this evening. I would also like to give props to my sister and her A on her Senior Project :) Good job Sister! The summer has finally begun, and the weather is nice and refreshing. I don't have a lot of plans this summer except for a little work and summer school starting in June. I'm still unpacking all my stuff from moving back home (and I'm guessing it'll take another week to finish) I hope everyone is having a wonderful break so far. If anyone has any big plans coming up, I'd love to hear from you. Now, I do believe I'm going to try to get some sleep. My arms and back are sore from moving yesterday. So I realized that with the end of the semester coming up, I've been extremely booked with stuff to do. So I apologize for my lack of posting over the past 17 days. I currently don't have anything major to talk about. Shawn and I did finish our last English paper of our lives! That's exciting. We also read our last reading assignment for English as well.

I would like to mention a rising Christian singer. His name is Aaron Shust, and I love his music. Brwyan and I were up at 3 in the morning a couple of weeks ago and we were watching tv. There was nothing on, as usual, so we were flipping through the stations. We ran across a channel that had some Christian music videos on it, so we watch those for a while. After those videos went off, a show names "The Logan Show" came on. It's a small show, based in Nashville, that is kind of like the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, but Logan isn't the most entertaining host. At the end of the show, this guy by the name of Aaron Shust performed a song "My Savior, My God". I thought it was a good song with a good message. About a week later, Brwyan and I were driving back from Knoxville. I turned the radio to 89.1 FM and I heard a familiar song. It was Aaron Shust. Now he has made it on the top song lists of six radio stations and he is continuing to grow. I just wanted to share with everyone this really cool singer. I'm not trying to push my beliefs on anyone. On my last post, I was simply expressing my thoughts and opinions about a news article I ran across. It is my personal opinion that schools should teach students both the Creation and Evolution as what they are, theories. They should also not push either side as truth, but make sure that both sides are presented equally. People can make up their minds about this subject, but only after they hear both sides. For the record, I can think for myself just fine and I know what I believe. The choice is up to each individual. What do you believe?

Isn't it lovely that Darwin's Theory of Evolution has found its way into not only our science text books, but also in the news.
As I was signing out of my Hotmail account, I ran across this article that says scientists now claim they have discovered more evidence to prove evolution must be the truth. Entire article here.

As a firm believer in the Bible, I must say something about this article. I do not believe the Earth is millions and millions of years old as most scientists say. There are numerous scientific reasons that the Evolution Theory can not be possible. To save time, here are some links that disprove the "Big Bang" Theory, how fossils can't prove evolution, and a good summary of The Hovind Theory (which I think everyone should read!!!) These are fantastic explainations on how Divine Creation is the one and only answer for our existance. Kent Hovind is the main scientist that began disproving evolution for God many years ago, and I hope everyone will take a few minutes of their day to wake up and realize the truth behind God's creation.

Just recently, I've come up with ten goals that I've set for myself. If possible, I'd like to fullfill these before I finish my college career. So here are my goals (in no particular order)
Sell something on ebay for $50 or more

Become a published author

Make a video that gets on the popular videos on google video

Spend 24 hours in complete solitude (with God)

Read the Bible cover to cover

Have something (a building, body of water, road, etc.) named after me

Hike part of the Appalachin Trail

Sell a piece of my own art (I may be able to accomplish my ebay goal and this one at the same time)

Successfully pick a lock on a door

Create a new cartoon comic (I could be the next Charles Schultz)

So there's my list, I know, some of them aren't huge and I'm sure I won't be changing the world or anything. But you never know what you can accomplish until you try :)

Have you ever had one of those days where you can see God constantly working throughout people's lives? Today has been one of those days for me. So many thoughts and events have presented themselves thoughout the course of the day that has reminded me that we're not in control.

Shawn and Jordan have helped me to realize that we are all slowly reaching adulthood. Us guys of Alumni were accepted into the appartments for next school year. I know that doesn't sound like a huge deal, but it's another small stepping stone in the walk of life.
As I read over Shawn and Jordan's blog entries, I started to think and reflect on the past semester. I can see that I too am beginning to "put away childish things" (1 Corinthians 13:11). This isn't to say that I'm not a fun person anymore, cause there are those Kool-Aid sugar rush nights that bring out the wild side of me, but I'm saying that my thoughts and actions aren't as child-like. I'm realizing that there are more important problems in the world then reality tv and whether or not I get enough sleep every night.
A few other friends of mine have helped me along in seeing how God works through relationships. I know it's hard to give advice to friends on certain topics when I'm having just as much trouble in these areas myself, but I've learned that God has put us all here in order to help one another the best we know how.
I realize that for all of you reading this, my thoughts probably don't seem to fit together, but I just had to write down some of these thoughts for my own benefit.

Personally, I enjoyed the creativity of Jeeves' outfits during holidays and special occasions, but I guess that's just not enough for the business world. WCQR Rocks My Ears Off!

For everyone in Greene County, I have fantastically awesome news! WCQR has been granted a new frequency 93.7 FM, and now we can all have a good clean Christian radio station to listen to with the top Christian hits. This has been my favorite radio station for years, but it's been one of those stations that you have to position the antenna perfectly and the moons of Saturn have to be in alignment before you can get clear reception. A Carson Newman Starry Night

For the past little while, I've been working on a new painting which I like to call "A Carson Newman Starry Night". It was inspired by and based on Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" but it has my take on the picture.
As you look at this painting, you can see some of the details that I've added. I'll see if I can explain them to you. If you look at van Gogh's original work, you can see that he portrayed a small town encapsilated with an abundance of flowing stars and sky. Some people portray this as a way of showing the awesomeness and protection that God is showing over the town. I am definitely one of those individuals. This is one of the main reasons that I wanted to base my painting around this particular work. My painting is showing how God is protecting all of us in our small town campus.
As you'll notice, I didn't put all of the buildings of Carson Newman in the painting. This is partly because if I painted all the buildings they would be so tiny you couldn't tell what they are, and also because I wanted to focus on the areas that mean the most to my friends and I. The columns made it into the picture because they symbolize the center of CN. They show the beauty of the campus and they represent the togetherness of campus. Alumni is there due to the fact that it's the coolest dorm in the world and it's where I live. It also represents the feeling of home. First Baptist Church represents the strong Christian atmosphere of campus as well as the presence of God all around campus. The library behind FBC represents all of the knowledge and learning here at CN. I also put the math building at the bottom because that's where most of my classes occur.
The light blue building towards the middle is the Blackberry Patch. This represents the fun and randomness we all have here at college. You will also see Taco Bell and Walmart signs along the sides of the picture. These again represent the fun times we've had here, plus these are two of the places every CN student spends lots of money. The SAC is also on the picture to show off our athletic sides :)
There are a few more key areas to our college career including the Isle of Heron, Chicken Island, and Mossy Creek Caves. You can also notice that Brian the fish is swimming near the Isle and there is a blue heron flying over the island as well. (sorry if you can't exactly see them due to blurriness)
As you look towards the sky, you'll see stars. Like the campus, these aren't really in any particular locations exept for a few. I put Orion's belt and the Little Dipper in the picture because I can always spot them in the sky. Also there is a solitary shooting star in the upper right of the painting. Originally, I was planning to make the sky have no clouds in the picture at all so the stars would stand out a little more, but I decided that the sky couldn't be perfectly clear because nothing and nobody is perfect.
I'm sure there is more symbolism, but that's all I can think of at the moment. I hope you enjoy "A Carson Newman Starry Night"!

I would like to apologize to all of my regular readers. For the past week or so, I've been too covered up with work to continually update my blog as I would like to do. My math and computer science classes are requiring more and more reading as I go through them (not to mention the 535 page Italian novel I'm reading for English) Just to give you a taste of what I get to learn, I've made this picture showing what we learned today in Abstract. It's using universal and existential quantifiers to label a popular song. Can anybody tell me what song it is? Hopefully, I'll get to blog about more exciting things in the next few days, but for now, I need to get cracking on this homework

On yet another of our infamous adventures, Brian, Shawn, and I found this exciting new get away location. At only minutes away from campus, Mossy Creek Caves has the peace and beauty that any over-worked college student can enjoy! This area contains a gorgeous lagoon of teal water and it is surrounded by lucious foliage. Hiking trails range in difficulty from moderate to difficult.
Two caves are located directly off of the water (only one of which is accessible by foot)

Although it is greatly unrecommended, boating and fishing are possible leisure activities. Rock throwing is a nice alternative to these activities. This consists of tossing small stones, found on the edges of the gorge, into the great depths of the lagoon. This alternative may extend your visit to Mossy Creek Caves as it is not yet determined if the water is safe to come into direct contact with human skin. It also makes a nice "ker-ploooosh" sound :) The local residents have marked their territory with artwork along the upper edges of the rock face. For information of the exact location of this exotic get away, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you. Tours may become avaliable in the event of actual interest. (group rates available)

Today is the fifth and final day of Shawnaka :) This five day event was created after Shawn decided he wanted a holiday for him.
We celebrated with the traditional Shawnora, and we played mini board games. We also watched the Numa Numa kid and the Star Wars Kid movies! We had Shawnaka (Zebra) Cakes and water!!! Yay for Shawnaka

The Band Blues

As most of you know, the Brian Cox Quartet was created only about a week and a half ago. After the band was created, the question was brought up as to who the lead singer of the band is. There is a very simple answer to this question and that is that there is no lead singer at all. In fact, there is absolutely no singing in this band, it's completely instrumental (for the simple fact that I can't sing) As this question was easily answered, there was also a little bit of jealousy between Brian, the lead guitarist, and Brian, the ukuleleist. It seems that Brian the ukuleleist felt like he had the better playing ability of the two. This posed a small problem for the band, however, there is good news! You get to help choose the better of the two! Isn't that exciting? I'm leaving the choice up to you, as my faithful blog readers, to choose who should become the official "leader" of the band. So, before you go off and make your decision based on looks, or something foolish like that, why don't you take a look at this little dity :)

Back to School Supplies

Today, my mommy and I ventured down to Carson-Newman to buy my books for the upcoming semester. I got lots of big expensive books, including a 5 pounder for Intro to Algorithms. Also, my Papaw Coxes gave me a paint set yesterday! So, I'll be making some pretty pictures soon (hopefully) :) If anybody has any good ideas of what I should paint, let me know! Ms. Lindsey has requested a pretty pansy, so that's already on my list :) Only a few more days until school starts again, so I hope everyone's ready!

While sitting in my living room and watching tv, the idea struck me to start a band. This isn't any ordinary band, it's the Brian Cox Quartet! Featuring Brian on keyboard, Brian on the bongos, Brian on lead guitar, and Brian on back up ukulele :) Hopefully in the future an album will come out, and I'll be sure to let everyone know when it's ready! For now, the band will be restricted to my basement.

Guess what, guess what!! At midnight tonight, December 31, we gain an extra second.

"A leap second is an intercalary, one-second adjustment that keeps broadcast standards for time of day close to mean solar time. Leap seconds are used to keep time standards synchronized with civil calendars, the basis of which is astronomical." - Wikipedia

I just thought I'd inform you all of this extra second, and to encourage you to use this second wisely. Maybe you could take the extra second to pick your nose, or crack your knuckles. Really live on the wild side :) You could even take this second to tell a close friend that you love them. Well, actually you'd probably get out "I Love" in the extra second, so the "You" would take away from your regular scheduled time, but I think they're worth your time ;) I hope everyone has a wonderful Leap Second!
